Frequently asked questions.
You will arrive with your paperwork completed (available on our Patient Forms page) and your insurance card. You will be seen for a full initial evaluation, where the therapist discusses your medical history, current symptoms, pain intensity, and goals. The objective evaluation may include palpation, range of motion testing, muscle testing, a neurological screening, special tests, and a posture assessment. From there, we build a plan with your input: how often you will be seen, how many weeks of care, home exercises, and what to expect at discharge.
Bring your physical therapy referral if you have one (a referral is not always needed), your payment information, and your insurance card if insurance is covering the cost. If you are covered by workers' compensation, bring your claim number and case manager's contact information. If you are covered by auto insurance or an attorney lien, bring that information as well.
Wear loose-fitting clothing that exposes the area we will be evaluating and treating. Shorts work well for a knee problem, a tank top for a shoulder problem, and loose-fitting pants and a shirt for a low back problem, so we can perform a thorough examination.
Treatment sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes per visit.
This is highly variable and depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, and your medical history. You will be re-evaluated regularly, and we will keep your doctor updated with progress reports and recommendations.
No, most states, including Indiana, allow direct access to physical therapy, so you can start without a doctor's referral. If your insurance requires paperwork from a physician, we will handle tracking it down so it does not hold up your care.
