We find exactly where motion is restricted.
Hands-on treatment for joints and soft tissue that lack the range of motion you need, restoring movement before you have to force it.
What It Is
Manual therapy is hands-on treatment: your Doctor of Physical Therapy uses skilled, targeted pressure and movement to treat joints and soft tissue that have lost normal range of motion. It can be helpful for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions where stiffness, not just weakness, is the problem.
Because it is hands-on, we can find and treat restrictions an exercise alone will not reach, then follow it immediately with movement to help that new range of motion actually stick. It is almost always paired with an active plan, not used as a standalone fix.

Some techniques can feel like firm pressure on a tender or restricted area, but it should never be sharply painful. We explain what to expect and adjust pressure based on your feedback throughout.
No. A massage therapist focuses on relaxation and soft tissue. Manual therapy is a clinical technique performed by your Doctor of Physical Therapy, targeted at a specific joint or tissue restriction found in your evaluation.
It depends on how long the restriction has been present and what is causing it. Many patients feel a difference within the first few visits, though the full plan is set at your evaluation.
